Essay #2

     Muhammed Drammeh                                                                 August 15, 2011

Drug Addiction is everywhere from celebrities, athletics, artist, or even the quietest kid in you math class.  Drug addiction is a state of periodic or chronic intoxication detrimental to the individual and society produced by the repeated intake of habit-forming drugs.  Whether it is Weed, Crack, Cocaine, or Needles drugs are drugs and once you are hooked on it, it is hard to quit. They say using drugs is a slow and painless way to kill you. If that is the case most of the people in Castle Hill, my neighborhood are wasting over a hundred dollars a week just to die.
Drug addiction has influenced my life in a huge way because the addicts, crack babies, pot head well most of them are my friends and family. There are people in my life I knew since we were babies that have got in to involve with drug. Most of them are either doing time in jail or going through family problems because they cannot get their hands away from drugs. Despite the fact that I have known them all my life it seems like they are completely new people because the drugs are changing their attitude and personality. Sometimes I cannot blame my friends and family because on ever corner of ever block on castle hill is a different drug dealer just waiting from his next customer.
I, on the other hand, I though smoking weed would be the last thing I would do until I started getting high to balance out the lows. I was so close to being like the rest of the addicts on castle hill, my grade where dropping rapidly, I was getting more and more lazy, and my basketball dreams where being affect extremely. Luckily, I had good friend I knew that were not on drugs help and guide me on the path to success. They thought me that education is the key to success, made me focus one school, and got me of the streets. Now my grades have improved beyond my own expectations, and I am working hard to achieve my goals to become a software developer if not being a professional basketball player.
I try and do the same for my addict friend that people did for me because everyone deserve a change to do something with their life so I help them with homework sometimes or lecture them on the importance of school. Because of my help, most of them are not conceited addicts anymore and are heading down the right path.
The issue of drug addiction is going to affect my future because I know that some of my friend and family are never going to stay away from drugs but at the same time, they are others who are going to change their life around and become success,

Resume Lesson

I learn that first impressions in a work setting are important because your first impression is a lasting impression, which means your first impression determines how people look at you. The appropriate attire for an interview for a male is black/blue slacks, white dress shirt and a slide colored tie.  To show good communication skills during an interview is by speaking proper, no foul language. Your resume reflects you; it is about your achievements, special skills, ETC. the part of your resume that should always change when applying for a new job is your objective.

Mercy Bronx Campus

What I liked about the Bronx Campus is that it was not too big, the classes were small for a better learning condition and the environment impressed me.  The difference between the Manhattan campus and the Bronx campus is that they offer different courses. In addition, one campus is bigger than the other is. For me I prefer going to the Manhattan campus because they offer the course that I would make a career. The campus I see myself going to is the Manhattan campus because I am interested in the programs and courses that they offer.

Class Participation

The way I participate in class is good because when I have a question or do not understand something I am not shy to raise my hand and ask the teacher to repeat herself or to explain further more. I feel that there is not a difference between the ways I participate in class versus how a student should participate because good class participation is characterized as raising your hand and asking question when you don’t understand, taken notes, and asking for help and I feel I do all those things. I think the methods I use right now are the ones I should continue using for next year to achieve my goals of raise all my grade point average by at least 10 percent. I do not think I have any changes in my life regarding class participation once I go to college.

Time Management

I learn that I have been managing my time badly. I am not using my time effectively because I spend more time playing than studying. What I can do to manage my time better as a high school student is get more sleep at night so I can get up early and be on time for my class, also I have to take less time going from class to class which  means less socializing in the hallway. This year a change I might make in my schedule to assist me in utilizing my time efficiently is to get a 2nd – 7th so I have more time to get to school on time and have more time at home to do homework before basketball practice. A change I will make in my life with regard to management change once I get to college is more hours of sleep so I won’t be tried in class and could focus, also more hours of studying and homework so I won’t be behind in my classes.

Social Topic

The topic I selected was Drug Addiction. This topic is important to me because it is affecting my whole community and its changing people that I knew since we were kids. I think this topic will best represent me to a college admissions officer because I was going down that road where drugs were starting to influence my life. However, I had friend that were looking out for me and help me raise my grade and stay away from drugs, now my grades are improving and am trying to help some of my friends that are hooked on drugs as people helped me. Now, I am more focused on my future as a NBA player. The impression I want from this essay is for them not to think of me as another kid from the streets but as someone who turned his life around and is using his experiences to help others.
